BioThis journal has been a running if erratic diary of a text book midlife crisis. I believe at this point I've had a least three of them.
Begun a couple years ago as a way to keep my neurons firing in the face of unemployment, dulling medications and self-selected, depression-induced solitary confinement, these pages are in the process--like their writer--of becoming something new. Of course, exactly what sort of 'new thing' both I and this journal are becoming remains to be seen.
It is my hope that this archive will at some point in the future provide for my children a degree of insight into their fallible, insufferably human father. Likewise it is my hope that I manage to live long enough that such (at times rather intimate and frank) insights can be considered age-appropriate.
On a less lofty level, Illuminations--originally a therapeutic homework assignment given by me to me--is now a delivery system for rants and monologues that seek to educate, titillate and otherwise blithely irritate a small but by all appearances dedicated readership.
For those "comments" added to the page; for all the email; for the "nudges" I receive when I fail to post for an extended period, I am grateful and humbled. Well...
as humbled as a generally self-satisfied prick like me can be, anyway.
